    Enumeration 1-Genericity in the Local Enumeration Degrees.

    We discuss a notion of forcing that characterizes enumeration 1-genericity, and we investigate the immunity, lowness, and quasiminimality properties of enumeration 1-generic sets and their degrees. We construct an enumeration operator Δ such that, for any A, the set ΔA is enumeration 1-generic and has the same jump complexity as A. We deduce from this and other recent results from the literature that not only does every degree a bound an enumeration 1-generic degree b such that a'=b', but also that, if a is nonzero, then we can find such b satisfying 0e<b<a. We conclude by proving the existence of both a nonzero low and a properly Σ02 nonsplittable enumeration 1-generic degree, hence proving that the class of 1-generic degrees is properly subsumed by the class of enumeration 1-generic degrees

    Decomposing the impacts of overeducation and overskilling on earnings and job satisfaction: an analysis using REFLEX data.

    This article assesses the extent to which the impact of overeducation and overskilling on labour market outcomes such as earnings and job satisfaction relate to mismatches in particular competency areas. The analysis uses REFLEX data, which collects information about 19 key competence areas related to job performance. We find that the penalties to both forms of mismatch are insensitive to the inclusion of controls for overskilling in a wide range of jobspecific competencies. The research suggests that the problem of mismatch relates to an inability to fully utilise general or innate ability as opposed to specific areas of acquired learning. We conclude that the problem of mismatch can only be effectively addressed by raising general levels of job quality within developed labour markets

    Tethered Swimming Can Be Used to Evaluate Force Contribution for Short-Distance Swimming Performance

    The purpose of this study was two-fold: (a) to compare stroke and the physiological responses between maximal tethered and free front crawl swimming and (b) to evaluate the contribution of force exertion for swimming performance over short distances. A total of 34 male swimmers, representing various levels of competitive performance, participated in this study. Each participant was tested in both a 30-second maximal tethered swimming test and a 50-m free swimming test. The tethered force parameters, the swimming speed, stroke (stroke rate [SR]), and the physiological responses (increase in blood lactate concentration [ΔBLa], heart rate, and rate of perceived exertion) were recorded and calculated. The results showed no differences in stroke and the physiological responses between tethered and free swimming, with a high level of agreement for the SR and ΔBLa. A strong correlation was obtained between the maximum impulse of force per stroke and the speed (r = 0.91; p < 0.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the maximum impulse and SR in the tethered condition explained 84% of the free swimming performance. The relationship between the swimming speed and maximum force tended to be nonlinear, whereas linear relationships were observed with the maximum impulse. This study demonstrates that tethered swimming does not significantly alter stroke and the physiological responses compared with free swimming, and that the maximum impulse per stroke should be used to evaluate the balance between force and the ability to effectively apply force during sprint swimming.     First steps in the formulation of praziquantel nanosuspensions for pharmaceutical applications

    Praziquantel (PZQ), a broad spectrum anthelmintic drug, cannot be found in acceptable dosage forms for elderly patients, paediatric patients, and for veterinary use. In fact, very little has been done up to now in the formulation of liquid dosage forms, being they always formulated for parenteral administration. To beat this important challenge, it was accomplished a comprehensive analysis of the influence of two elementary physicochemical aspects, i.e. surface thermodynamic and electrokinetic properties, on the colloidal stability of PZQ nanosuspensions. The hydrophobic character of the drug, intensely determining the flocculation curves, was confirmed by the thermodynamic characterization. The electrophoretic characterization, in combination with the sedimentation and relative absorbance versus time curves, highlighted that the electrical double layer thickness and the surface charge can play an essential role in the stability of the pharmaceutical colloid. Finally, it was demonstrated that controlling the pH values and the incorporation of electrolytes can help in formulating PZQ aqueous nanosuspensions with appropriate stability and redispersibility behaviours for pharmaceutical use.Fil: Martinez, Noelia Anabel.     Effect of the temperature and relative humidity in stored sotol (Dasylirion cedrosanum Trel.) seeds on fungi biodiversity

    The objective of the research was to identify the fungi in sotol seeds at different conditions of temperature and relative humidity. Seeds were collected at Buñuelos, municipality, and taken to the Laboratory of the Center for Training and Development in Seed Technology (CCDTS) at Universidad Autonoma Agraria Antonio Narro. The seed was stored for a period of 90 days, whit conditions of 60, 75, 80 and 85% of relative humidity kept at 5, 15 and 25 °C. Fungi identifying by morphological criteria. A completely randomized experiment using R software, with factorial arrangement whit two replications. Pathogens identified were: Aspergillus glaucus, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium sp., Penicillium sp., Aspergillus candidus, Cladosporiun sp., Alternaria sp. and Aspergillus chraceus, the results showed that the higher the humidity, temperature and storage time, the incidence of fungi tends to be higher. Fungi with a higher presence in sotol seeds were: Aspergillus glaucus and Penicillium sp. Safe storage environments for sotol seeds reported in this work are 5 °C and a relative humidity of 60-75%. Sotol seeds tolerates conditions of 15 °C and a relative humidity up to 75%.&nbsp

    CD43 signals induce Type One lineage commitment of human CD4+ T cells

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The activation and effector phenotype of T cells depend on the strength of the interaction of the TcR with its cognate antigen and additional signals provided by cytokines and by co-receptors. Lymphocytes sense both the presence of an antigen and also clues from antigen-presenting cells, which dictate the requisite response. CD43 is one of the most abundant molecules on the surface of T cells; it mediates its own signalling events and cooperates with those mediated by the T cell receptor in T cell priming. We have examined the role of CD43 signals on the effector phenotype of adult CD4<sup>+ </sup>and CD8<sup>+ </sup>human T cells, both alone and in the presence of signals from the TcR.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>CD43 signals direct the expression of IFNγ in human T cells. In freshly isolated CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells, CD43 signals potentiated expression of the IFNγ gene induced by TcR activation; this was not seen in CD8<sup>+ </sup>T cells. In effector cells, CD43 signals alone induced the expression of the IFNγ gene in CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells and to a lesser extent in CD8<sup>+ </sup>cells. The combined signals from CD43 and the TcR increased the transcription of the T-bet gene in CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells and inhibited the transcription of the GATA-3 gene in both populations of T cells, thus predisposing CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells to commitment to the T1 lineage. In support of this, CD43 signals induced a transient membrane expression of the high-affinity chains of the receptors for IL-12 and IFNγ in CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells. CD43 and TcR signals also cooperated with those of IL-12 in the induction of IFNγ expression. Moreover, CD43 signals induced the co-clustering of IFNγR and the TcR and cooperated with TcR and IL-12 signals, triggering a co-capping of both receptors in CD4<sup>+ </sup>populations, a phenomenon that has been associated with a T1 commitment.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results suggest a key role for CD43 signals in the differentiation of human CD4<sup>+ </sup>T cells into a T1 pattern.</p

    Movement velocity as a measure of exercise intensity in three lower limb exercises

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between movement velocity and relative load in three lower limbs exercises commonly used to develop strength: Leg Press, Full Squat, and Half Squat. The percentage of one Repetition Maximum (%1RM) has typically been used as the main parameter to control resistance training, however more recent research has proposed movement velocity as an alternative. Fifteen participants performed a load progression with a range of loads until they reached their one repetition maximum (1RM). Maximum instantaneous velocity V max) and mean propulsive velocity (MPV) of the knee extension phase of each exercise were assessed. For all exercises, a strong relationship between V max and the %1RM was found: Leg Press (r2adj=0.96; 95% CI for slope is [-0.0244,-0.0258], p<0.0001), Full Squat (r2adj=0.94; 95% CI for slope is [-0.0144, -0.0139], p<0.0001), and Half Squat (r2adj=0.97; 95% CI for slope is [-0.0135, -0.00143], p<0.0001), and for MPV, Leg Press (r2adj=0.96; 95% CI for slope is [- 0.0169, -0.0175], p<0.0001, Full Squat (r2adj=0.95; 95% CI for slope is [-0.0136, -0.0128], p<0.0001), and Half Squat (r2adj=0.96; 95% CI for slope is [-0.0116, 0.0124], p<0.0001). The 1RM was attained with a MPV and Vmax of 0.21±0.06 ms-1 and 0.63±0.15 ms-1, 0.29±0.05 ms-1 and 0.89±0.17 ms-1, 0.33±0.05 ms-1, and 0.95±0.13 ms-1 for Leg Press, Full Squat and Half Squat respectively. Results indicate that it is possible to determine an exercise-specific %1RM by measuring movement velocity for that exercise

    Diagnóstico y mejoramiento del Rastro municipal, Zacoalco de Torres.

    Las propuestas de mejora a corto, mediano y largo plazo para el Rastro municipal de Zacoalco de Torres, es un proyecto que se desarrolló en el PAP San Pedro Valencia: Programa de Sustentabilidad Socioambiental para el Desarrollo Inclusivo en el cual identificamos una problemática que se centra en la contaminación del medio ambiente –suelo- a causa de la mala disposición de aguas residuales provenientes de procesos del Rastro Municipal. Esta mala gestión genera riesgos a la salud de viviendas aledañas por contaminación de agua potable y exposición a materia residual no tratada. Para poder proponer dichas propuestas de mejora fue necesario elaborar un diagnóstico/formulario en base a la normativa mexicana aplicable en los rastros municipales. De este modo se encontró un total de 22 Normas Oficiales Mexicanas, de las cuales solamente 5 involucran el manejo de las aguas residuales; Estas cinco normas son: NOM-008-ZOO-1994, NOM-009-ZOO-1994, NOM-194-SSA1-2004, NOM-001-SEMARNAT-1996, NOM-002-SEMARNAT-1996. De esta forma, una vez que se aplicó el diagnóstico/formulario al director del rastro, se logró identificar aquellas propuestas de mejora a corto, mediano y largo plazo para el rastro de Zacoalco de Torres. Asimismo, se buscó que en todo momento las propuestas fueran claras y de rápida aplicación involucrando tanto a directivos del rastro como al director de gestión y proyectos del agua potable en el municipio.ITESO, A.C
